Last June, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my first luxury purse ever – the Gucci Marmont Small Shoulder Bag. Everyone who knows me well knows I love and covet designer items – they are not a purchase I take lightly, and as I’ve gotten older my purchases have swayed less from “let me buy 100 cheap items in my wardrobe that I wear briefly” to “let me shop less often and invest in a true capsule wardrobe that lasts a lifetime.”

Designer handbags are a huge investment, but they ARE an investment – if you keep them in good shape! Designers like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, etc all hold their value. In many cases, they appreciate the longer you have them! As long as you take good care of your purchase, you could expect to turn around and sell your designer handbag for not that much less than you spent on it originally – and possibly even more! It’s a nice comfort to know that if you’re ever in quick need of some cash you can turn around and sell your bag in a pinch!

“I like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet.”

Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

I considered so many different bags before finally pulling the trigger on the small Gucci shoulder bag. Now that I’ve owned this bag for well over 8 months, I wanted to share an honest review of what I like/don’t like about the small Gucci Marmont.

When I was researching what designer purse to invest in, I considered a lot of different options. I finally narrowed it down to the Gucci Marmont Small Shoulder Bag, especially after reading this review from the blogger Sunseeking in Style. It really helped to solidify that this would be the right bag for me.

Here’s What Drew Me to this Bag:

  • The Size: From all the photos and research I did, the size seemed perfect for me. I am usually hustling around with a diaper bag or baby in tow, and a crossbody is the best function for my lifestyle. However, it still looked large enough to handle a lot of what I need to carry along.
  • The Look: I liked how this bag had both browns and blacks in it, meaning I could wear it with just about anything in my wardrobe.
  • The Price: This bag is by NO means cheap, but it is a more affordable designer bag. With this being my first big designer purchase, I liked that it was on the cheaper side

An Honest Review of the Bag

Now that I’ve owned this crossbody for awhile, I can honestly say I am SO happy with my choice to purchase the Gucci Marmont as my first designer handbag. My initial reasons for deciding to purchase this bag ended up all being accurate! The size is great – it isn’t big, but it holds a TON! You can easily fit a full sized wallet, car and house keys, sunglasses, lipstick, and still have some extra room.

This bag has been perfect for almost every season: I wore it in the summer and fall nonstop. I’ve since put it on display in my office through the winter, since upstate New York winters are harsh and unforgiving – I don’t want it ruined or the leather getting too wet, so I’ve opted to use a cheaper handbag ever since December. However, it’s made a great decoration piece in my office for the time being 😉

Some other features I really like of the bag:

  • It’s very sturdy – it has held it’s shape great since owning it.
  • The quality is great. The leather shows NO signs of wear since owning it, and I absolutely love the gold hardware accent pieces. It looks SO sharp when you wear it! The monogram body also has a great feel to it and has shown no signs of wear since owning it.
  • It’s unique – this is not a bag you’ll see on everyone. I find that a lot of Gucci Marmont owners tend to get the all leather versions, and I’ve never seen another one of my bags around here. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it!

Overall, this is a bag I know I’ll be happy with for years. I plan on eventually passing it down to my daughter as a vintage heirloom – something she can keep to use for herself, and since Gucci will always hold it’s value, it’s an investment item for her, too!

My Next Purchase…

I actually just invested in my second luxury bag recently, and am awaiting it’s arrival currently. I can’t wait to share with you all! I’m planning on doing an unboxing on my Instagram. Make sure you’re following me to catch the reel if you’re not already! It’s a bag I’ve coveted for YEARS and finally pulled the trigger on.

  1. What an absolutely gorgeous bag! It looks so elegant and timeless. I agree that going for something other than the leather version is definitely a great choice. This bag will certainly stand out when you take it out on the town. Congrats!
